Eventual bike setup and kit list for the 2019 version of the Transcontinental, after much deliberations, repacks and training weekends.
With some hindsight on the race, there is probably a few things that I would do differently, as always this is subjective and will be different for every rider but included are a few things I would change to this setup. The first would be to include a larger front, pouch style bag for quick and accessible storage of bigger shops. Fuel was by far the most important thing on this race and having a large variety of snacks close to hand is key, I spent far too long faffing whilst doing the daily groceries. The bladder and tube didn’t really work for me either, as I normally ride with bidons they are much more natural to use for me and easier to refill in streams or village fountains if shops are scarce. I would possibly carry a small, lighter bivvy but it did the job so can’t complain. Clothes were more or less spot on for me and would highly recommend a good quality hiking style rain jacket over a cycling specific race cape. Please feel free to email if you have any questions.
